No point to my title, I just happen to be staring at a picture of a pug.
You will all be happy to hear that Raccoon was adopted on Wednesday, August 24, and Rachael was oh so lonely was adopted the very next day. I hope to contact their new owners to check on the kids this week. I hope they will send me their photos as they get older.
PAWS received its new furniture on Friday. Everyone was extremely ecstatic! So new and clean and pretty.
I went to my friend Fiona's Dinner party on Saturday (albeit 3 hours late) but we made it! We had yummy goodies and great company.
To be honest, no knitting this weekend. Oh! Not true, I did start a wonton from the Feline Dim Sum but I never folded it so it is now a triangle. Ninna approved, and I started to work on more of them, as I am thinking of making for the bazaar. All the kids are doing well. Crazy as ever!
On the bright bright side. they had a pet adoption day at NJ Pets in Verona, NJ, and five of the six cats were adopted. Poor Forest was the only cat not adopted. I will make sure to post a picture of him, he is black and white and very friendly. Poor Fella! One of the cats adopted was Cleo whose picture is below. I didn't know this but Cleo was left on the front door of PAWS one morning, according to the letter the owners were moving,....ahem....fill in the blanks on what I was just thinking, but she now has a happy home.
Lastly, I will post a picture of Kristina's favorite cat, Tinkerbell. Rather, kitten. Tinkerbell is probably one of the most adorable kittens we have seen and she was found outside the YMCA, at a month old. She's got the cutest meow, and just adorable! Watch for that photo soon...
I have posted a few pics of recent projects. Now, that I received more Cascade 220 yarn from Knit Happens, I am ready to continue with the gift for the friends who I cannot mention. I did finish a cat bed for the PAWS Bazaar which needs to be felted, I have one more to make which will also be felted. I want to donate two-three beds for the bazaar.
I also began making a scarf onThursday from the yarn I picked up from Cape May. Sadly, it was the only yarn I felt attracted to at the time. It is in the strawberry dye lot, and has fuchsia, cranberry and brown in it, which I think I will actually wear. The problem I found in South Jersey is that everytime I went into the stores they were small and there was a group of women sitting in the area of the yarns and they wouldn't move (even with excuse me's) and after a while it gets annoying walking around everyone. So, I probably would have been moved, but I wasn't. The scarf is down below, it will be a skinny one for an accessory.
I finally picked up the Patagonia yarn in a lemon/lime yarn. I am using this yarn to make the Big Bad Baby Blanket. The blanket is past the 20 rows of seed stitch, and I am now into the body of the blanket. I hung out at Stix and Stitches for a couple of hours to get a jump on the blanket.
Anyways, off to Mexicali Rose for dinner with the girls.
So, today was the first time Ben and I participated in a cat rescue. I would love to say we did the rescue but, well, we did part of it. Ben came home from work and saw two very tiny kittens in the parking lot, he runs upstairs and tells me let's go grab them. When we got down there, there was no kittens, however there was my neighbor's car. So he looks underneath the car and he sees two kittens sitting in the engine of the car. He goes to my neighbor's unit, and the husband is home but he doesn't have the keys and his wife won't be home for two hours. So, we wait outside, Ben grabs food, and we wait outside. We make an executive decision to leave wet food outside in the lot, and see what happens from our balcony (that conveniently has a view of the lot). After 20 minutes he sees cats by the food, so we run outside and make a dash for what appears to be a small kitten and a medium size kitten. Ironically, what we saw from the balcony was a tiny kitten and a momma sized cat. Anyways, both get away, one through the lot and tiny one into the car (yet again). So, I call my friend, Val, Super Woman, and wait (yet again). Now, this process happens a few more times. Friends of ours who live on the fourth floor are moving out and watching us run around. Eventually, Val calls us she is heading over with reinforcements and we take to the parking lot. Ben heads down and I follow because as you remember I am updating the website. As I get outside a see a pack of women in the front of the building, which I soon realize is not Val's reinforcements. So, I go to the parking lot (in back of the building) to see Val and Julie her reinforcement (Animal Control Officer from Bloomfield). Ok, so we are debating our strategy and we begin to suspect the pack of women includes our neighbor. I go to the front of the building (I might add in my pajamas) and hold the door for the pack of women (who are extremely nicely dressed....when is the last time had a girls night out?, anyways) I approach my neighbor, and she is cool with popping the hood, (take a breath there is more), so the neighbor, the neighbor's sister who is fascinated with this, and I all head to the parking lot where Ben, Val and Julie were setting up cat carriers. Lights are on two of the cars, carriers are spread around, Julie has a net, I have my pajamas, and we are ready to go.... Pop the hood, and the grey and white one takes off at which point his or her (we haven't confirmed) downfall was getting caught in the fence behind me, so Julie and I attempt to maneuver the kitten out of the fence. Eventually, the kitten wiggles through the fence into Julie's net. Ok, one down, one to go. The second one, a tabby, hung out in the engine, sitting peacefully not moving. We got it to climb down but then it was better in its original spot, and Val grabbed the kitten from the top of the engine. Second went into the carrier more easily. We all did our own evaluation to confirm no more kittens in neighbor's car, neighbor is happy although I do have to say I was asked a half dozen times how I knew kittens were in her car, but nonetheless we are all happy no kittens were harmed during this rescue.
Ok, I will put some pictures of the kitten up eventually, and we will determine names shortly. And the website was updated during this whole process.
So, Ben and I have returned from Atlantic City and it was interesting. We are probably going to look into another time share next year. We saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the Imax screen with 300 kids and I didn't have a panic attack as some of my friends would believe me to do. It was interesting, although, as a Johnny Depp fan, not one of my favorite. I have noticed this trend to not like Tim Burton films until I watch again and again and then I love. Very few directors have that skills, but he certainly does. By the time the movie hits cable repeat, I may be singing its praises.
I have a ton of things to do like update the Knit 4 PAWS site as so much has happened. We have celebrated 100 blankets donated. The knit-a-thon will end October 31, 2005, so it is crunch time. Hopefully, we can reach 200 blankets donated. The cats love them, and it is a great way to help out AND encourage your yarn stash buygin justification system (or at least mine). Speaking of which, I went to Stix and Stitches SNB and I put yarn aside to make the Big Bad Baby Blanket for an old co-worker, and I messed up the dates and they are now closed for vacation. Not to sound like a baby, but waaaaahahaahahahaahahah! So, I am working on a surprise project for someone who every so often looks into my blog.
Ah, not speaking of which, I have to start some fundraising for the shelter. I have a list which I call my BIG TO DO list and there are way too many things on the list. I wish I could do this work full time, seriously, I wish I could coordinate these things as my job, but sadly this will not happen for a while.
Well, I must get back to work and post the new t-shirts on the Knit 4 PAWS site. I hope they do well.
