Well, I have noticed little signs of spring, why today I saw two bleach blondes walking down third avenue wearing pink velour suits and uggs (a lovely display of fashion). Little spots of color appear in the accessories, and damnit I want a new purse. That is a perfectly girlie thing to state, but I am going to seek out my spring accessory de resistance.
Something bright, and if I hopefully fit back into my spring jacket, then a tote would be perfect. hmmm.... I drool as I type.....
So, it seems that my casting on has not been that brilliant, and neither has been my purl. So, I went to my local LYS with the pattern for the mice from Stitch n' Bitch Nation, asking Elly (store owner) to show me how to read the pattern. I should have known it was arithmetic (blegh) and after that she was explaining how to make one (M1), and then I spent my Saturday afternoon being taught through the pattern how to purl, make one, i-cord, and how to use double pointed needles. As much as I appreciate graphics in knitting books, I think it confuses me more than anything. So, I went home and sewed the mouse together, ears, tail and stuffed it with some catnip. In one day, the mouse is missing an ear and part of the tail is already gone.
I made a second one in a different yarn (I am not at that point where I can talk about the yarn I am buying I understand it is yarn, I cannot describe its weight, what type of yarn, etc). Hopefully, this one should last longer.
I am hoping that next week that I will work on the basketweave pattern in the same book.
So, this post is long overdue as well.... Obviously, the Gates are now gone. But, we went and admired them (didn't understand them, but admired them!). I had to go into the office anyways. so we decided to make a day of it. We went to the Metropolitan (Ben had never been) and went to the Garden Balcony to have a bird's eye view of the extravaganza. To be honest, not really worth the $15 we paid each to have this view, BUT, we did spend the next three to four hours walking around the museum. We saw the Egyptian exhibit, the one on fashion sponsored by Roberto Cavalli (spelling?), we saw mummys and statues, Tiffany glass, and the Modern section (which is always my favorite). We saw some Jackson Pollock, Chuck Close (?), and some colorful things (see the colors below).
From there, we walked through the Gates and listened to everyone talking about the Gates. Grabbed an ovrepriced and undersized hot dog, to then attempt to find the Chocolate Bar. Never found the Chocolate Bar, but we did find Mr. Pink which was featured on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and then went to my office. From there, we went to a New Orleans restaurant, where I had Jambalaya and Ben enjoyed some baby back ribs.
